1. Build the poster around a clear reading path
A strong poster guides the eye from the question to the method, results, and implications. The title should communicate the key idea rather than only naming the topic. Background should be short, methods should establish credibility quickly, results should carry the visual weight, and implications should explain what the findings do — and do not — support.

2. Use design to organize meaning, not decorate
Use a clear left-to-right or top-to-bottom reading path. Keep the text density low enough that people can scan the poster rather than reading an essay on a wall. The title should be the largest text, headings should clearly mark sections, and captions should remain readable without zooming. One strong figure is usually more useful than several weak ones. Use color to group information, not as decoration.
3. Write poster text differently from manuscript text

4. Prepare a short presentation before the symposium
You should be able to explain the project in both a short and a longer version. A simple two-to-three-minute structure keeps the presentation focused while leaving time for questions.
15-second hook
State the question and why the gap matters.
45-second method
Explain what data, corpus, or sources you analyzed, which method you used, and the main boundary of the project.
60-second findings
Point to the strongest figure or result and explain the central pattern.
30-second implication
Explain why the finding matters while naming the limitation that prevents overclaiming.
5. Use questions as a stress test
When someone asks about your sample, search strategy, coding, analysis, or limitation, treat the question as an opportunity to show how the project was built. If you do not know an answer, say so clearly rather than improvising. After the session, note recurring questions; they often reveal where the poster or manuscript needs clarification.
6. Make every visual earn its space
Figures should have a clear takeaway caption, not just a label. A QR code can be useful when it opens something genuinely helpful, but it should be labeled so viewers know what they are scanning and tested before the session. Do not let decorative elements compete with the evidence.
